โ€œDesign is at its best when it still feels like it was made by a person.โ€

For a world we now share with AI

It started with small beginnings and a love of design. Over time, that grew into something more. From architecture school to my wedding table, itโ€™s been an unexpected journey, but one I care deeply about.

Today, that journey shapes everything I do. Whether itโ€™s designing spaces, creating for weddings or working on miniatures, I approach each project with the same care, attention to detail and focus on the people itโ€™s for.

What is a Wedding Designer?

If youโ€™ve made it this far and havenโ€™t clicked away to the wedding designer page, youโ€™re probably wondering what a wedding designer actually is.

Similar to an architectural designer, a wedding designer is someone who creates bespoke elements for your wedding day, designed around you and your ideas. That can include stationery, table details, signage, or something completely custom like vases with your wedding date, playing card and newspapers to name a few.

It can also be a bit more playful. Think bespoke table games to break the ice, personalised details, or small design pieces that bring personality into the day in a way that feels natural and fun.

At Dorset Maker Studio, we design for your wedding however you need it. Thereโ€™s no fixed formula, no judgement, and no limits on ideas. We aren’t an Etsy so itโ€™s your day, and everything we create is shaped around that.

You do architecture?

After years of studying, I often get asked why I didnโ€™t go down the route of large community buildings or cutting-edge architectural projects.

For me, the focus has always been on something smaller and closer to home. I prefer working at a more human scale, where design has a direct impact on family life and everyday living. Being recently married and getting my first house, home architecture, my love for home architecture has grown.

That means I aim to design extensions, interiors and homes spaces that are lived in and shaped over time.

Think of me as a family-focused architectural designer, working locally as part of your neighbourhood to help shape the places you live in. We don’t do over developments here.

Table top painting as well?

Yes, itโ€™s an interesting part of my work. In a busy world that is constantly changing, I think having a hobby is important. Something that removes the stress from the industrial lifestyle and brings the chill factor.

Iโ€™ve been lucky enough to turn my own hobby of design and painting into part of my business. Itโ€™s been genuinely humbling and enjoyable to work with so many other creators and artists on different projects, from Kickstarter campaigns to painting miniatures from monthly releases by talented designers. Sometimes you just want to collaborate with like minded people.

I found myself designing hobby products, adding my own creative input to things that people can build, paint and enjoy in their own time, so why not start a little Patreon.

Why do all of this ?

I wanted a small design practice of my own, something I could take ownership of and grow in the direction I felt was right.

In the wider world of architecture, things can often feel unstable and unpredictable. Over time, I realised I would rather spend my days actually designing, doing the work I trained for than being caught up in emails and checking drawings all day and phoning building control.

To me, architecture sits very close to art. Iโ€™ve always enjoyed drawing, especially buildings, and it remains one of the most rewarding parts of the profession. That’s why I chose to only offer up to planning level designs for architecture.

There are not many areas left where the quality of your drawing still matters so much, and that is something I genuinely take pride in.
